Help

Short answers, step by step. Stuck? Write to us and a person will reply.

Watchfox is almost ready. Nothing is for sale yet, and the plugin isn’t out. This page explains how it will work.

Updated

Set it up in a minute

  1. In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New. Search for Watchfox, click Install Now, then Activate.
  2. Check the email address. We fill in your WordPress email for you. Change it if you like.
  3. Pick your warnings. “Today” is always on. “This week” is on. “When you can” is off.
  4. Open the email from alerts@watchfox.site and click Confirm. Warnings start then.

That’s all. Your 14-day free trial starts and your site gets its first check straight away. Want to see what a warning looks like? Click Send me a sample warning.

No confirmation email? Look in spam or “Promotions”, and mark it “Not spam” so warnings always reach you. Or click Send it again.

Read a warning

Every warning answers five questions:

What happened?

One or two plain sentences.

Why does it matter to me?

Which plugin, your version, and what could happen.

What do I do?

One button that opens the right page in WordPress.

By when?

Today, This week or When you can. What the levels mean.

How do you know?

Who confirmed it, and when, with links to read it yourself. How we check.

Update a plugin, theme or WordPress

A plugin

  1. Log in to WordPress and click Plugins.
  2. Find the plugin that says “There is a new version available”.
  3. Click Update now. Wait for “Updated!”.

A theme

Go to Appearance → Themes, click the theme with the update notice, then Update now.

WordPress itself

Go to Dashboard → Updates and click Update to version ….

Tip: if your host offers backups, make one first. Updates almost always go fine, and a backup means you can undo anything.

Once you’ve updated, your site checks again and we send a short “Sorted” email.

Can’t update it yourself?

Someone else looks after my site.

Forward them our email. It says what to update, to which version, and by when.

I bought the plugin somewhere else.

Updates usually come from the seller’s website or your account there. Ask them if you can’t find it.

It’s about PHP or my server.

Only your hosting company can change those. The email includes a short message you can send them.

There’s no fix yet.

The email tells you what to do meanwhile, like switching that plugin off until a fix comes out.

Mute a warning

Click Stop warning me about this in the email. You don’t need to log in. Changed your mind? Undo it in WordPress under Watchfox → Settings → Muted.

You can’t mute “Today” warnings, because attackers are using those right now. And if something you muted becomes “Today”, we’ll tell you anyway.

The emails you’ll get

  • Warnings, when something on your site needs fixing.
  • “Sorted”, when you’ve fixed it.
  • “Now more serious”, if a warning moves up a level.
  • A short Sunday summary, if you want one. You can turn it off.
  • Account emails: confirming your address, your trial ending, and a reminder 3 days before any payment.

No newsletters. Ever.

Trial and plans

  • Each site gets one 14-day free trial, with everything on. No card needed. Reinstalling doesn’t restart it.
  • When the trial ends, nothing is charged. If you don’t pick a plan, your site moves to Free: a safety-check email once a month, and the first “Today” warning each month in full.
  • Free covers one site per email address. Other sites on Free are still checked, and you can see their warnings in WordPress, but they don’t get emails.
  • Pro checks one site all day, every day. Agency covers up to 10 sites, with one combined email. See the prices.
  • We email you 3 days before every payment. Cancel any time. See refunds.

Remove Watchfox

Go to Plugins, click Deactivate under Watchfox, then Delete. Watchfox removes its settings from your site and we stop emailing about it.

Paying for a plan? Deleting the plugin doesn’t cancel it, so use the cancel link in your receipt too.
